LCAS Goat Project

Empowering single mothers with disabled children, bringing hope and purpose.

LCAS and TRESGAD Orphanage and Community Center partnered in 2024 to create a 'Goat Project' that will not only enable the mothers to provide for their children, but will bring hope for the future.

Single mothers with disabled children in Africa often cannot leave their children alone and so are unable to work and provide for their families. Having already provided a safe environment for these women to meet and share their experiences, knowledge and ideas, we encouraged and helped them to brainstorm on ways to become self sufficient, while working from home.

In January 2024 we started work on our goat farm. Goat milk farming can be done on a small scale in urban areas and will provide food, nutrients and needed funds to these families.

We found one of the top 5 goat farmers in Kenya and the leading expert on urban goat farming. He and his farm were only 3.5 km away. The farmer has worked on similar mid to large scale project through the UN and has agreed to train and oversee our project: design and build of our enclosure, training on health, management and daily care of the goats, feeding, milking and eventually selling the milk, etc. We purchased 2 healthy high milk yielding pregnant goats from the farmer.

But our luck did not stop there. Having heard about LCAS /TRESGAD and the local work we were doing, a generous local businessman donated the space and materials to build our enclosure. We also had another local business donate a third pregnant goat.

Our first baby goat is born

Sunday, our first baby goat was born and is doing well. She has turned our initial '3' goat project into a '4' goat project. We are still waiting for the arrival of our 2nd and 3rd baby.

Thank you to all those who generously helped get this project off the ground

Our mothers are grateful for the opportunity they have received. They are working very hard together as a team, are becoming proactive and learning all they will need to know for success and have regained a hope for their futures. Thank you.
